Dial-a-Llama

It's amazing what you can find on the internet. I was looking for the following picture of a llama in a Honda Fit, to send to some friends, as I remembered it from the original ad campaign for the Honda Fit:Searching for it though, I came up with this:

How cool is the Dial-a-Llama? Apparently this picture was taken in Bolivia, which is a shame, because I would totally be all on that. Except for the fact a llama spit on me at the zoo when I was like five, so I'm a little untrusting of llamas, so maybe not. Dial-a-camel may be more my speed.

And as a side-note, I remembered this photo also from the 2007 Honda Fit ad campaign:

I don't remember who I discussed this with, but if you take a close look, the girl in the middle back seat is totally me. I mean, not really, but she looks like it. And it's even funnier, because I am always the one in the middle seat. Awesome, even Honda knows my place.

Elegance Evolves, But Perhaps Modeling Skills Going Down?

I ran across this ad in Harper's Bazaar, celebrating Vanity Fair's 90th anniversary. I thought it was a really well-done ad, with the exception that I thought the models did a substantially better job in the original photos. I've watched my fair share of America's Next Top Model, so I can do a photo critique with the best of them.

The first comparison is all about the facial expression. The original photo has a look of ethereal elegance as she looks up, while the new photo is more seductive, looking down a little. I guess that works as well, but I prefer the original.

For the second set of pictures, I thought the model in the new photo was just a little bored looking. Again, it's all about the little chin lift versus keeping the face level, and the original photo has attitude even in the wrist, while the new model is kind of limp.

The last comparison is an odd pose to begin with, but in my mind the new model did the worst job in emulating the old photo. The half-closed seductive eye on the original works with the coy hand, but the new model staring with an open eye straight at the reader is just strange.

Which set do you prefer - the originals or the new photos?

Pepsi Ad Addendum

So I was cruising the blogosphere this morning, and I came across a picture of the actual Pepsi ad on the bus on www.dcblogs.com. On the bus itself I think it's harder to tell that it says optimism, in my opinion at least. Ok, I know it's a mildly pathetic attempt to defend myself further, but it still stands. :)

I promise I will stop posting about the Pepsi ads when they stop running them

I really can't help it that Pepsi has essentially bought the DC transit system, so you'll just have to put up with it. Today I was walking to the metro, and I saw a bus with this ad on the side:

Obviously I recognized that it was a Pepsi ad, but I was really confused as to what it was trying to say. I sounded it out out loud - Pt im ismmmm? What does that mean? Are they trying to just make a random sound? Ah, that was when I realized the O in front. Somehow this ad didn't quite translate as well in my head as the ones with the O in the middle. Am I the only stupid person here, or did you see optimism when you first looked at it as well?
